GPRS or CDMA, which is better?

      By cooldude | September 17, 2010

GPRS is a technology used by mobile handsets to gain access to the internet. Earlier it was used by GSM phones but these days even CDMA (code division multiple access) is using GPRS.

GPRS – General packet radio service supports a wide range of consumer applications. GPRS customers enjoy a range of features like multimedia messages, email, video streaming, etc. There are two platforms for cell phone connectivity which are GSM and CDMA. GPRS is just a tool used by GSM to get access to the internet.

CDMA handsets do not need a SIM card whereas GSM handsets will always require one. One advantage of CDMA is that it transfers data very quickly. On the other hand GSM is very slow but is catching up. CDMA operates on smaller frequencies and require less power. They are also not very expensive. One disadvantage of CDMA is that it suffers from loss of call quality.

Pre-paid or Post-paid, what do you prefer?

      By cooldude | September 13, 2010

Mobile phones are one of the most basic requirements in today’s world. No matter whichever field you are working in or whichever place you stay, having a phone has become a basic need. Now, since the nature of everyone’s’ needs and requirements are different, there are two different modes of payment for mobile phones- the prepaid and the postpaid.

In a prepaid phone, what you typically do is pay a certain denomination in advance and get an amount of talktime (number of minutes that you are allowed to talk for). In a post paid connection you do not have to make any payment in advance. You can talk as much as you want to and at the end of the month you pay whatever your rental bill has come up to.

Now how can you decide which is right for you. If you are someone who needs to stay on a budget then a prepaid phone is right for you. In case you need flexibility in your calls then postpaid is the right option for you.
